How to Prepare for Your First Orthodontic Consultation

This article was prepared for the clinic’s multilingual section.

A first orthodontic consultation is usually calm and straightforward. A little preparation makes the visit more useful: it helps the doctor understand your concerns and helps you leave with a clearer idea of the next steps.

What to prepare in advance

  • think about your main concerns and questions;
  • bring recent scans or X-rays if you already have them;
  • note any previous dental treatments that may matter;
  • consider what is most important to you: appearance, timing, comfort, or budget.

Do you need special preparation

In most cases, normal oral hygiene before the visit is enough. If the clinic has already recommended scans or records, it is helpful to bring them along so diagnostics do not need to be repeated.

What you can expect from the visit

After the examination, the orthodontist can explain whether there is a bite or alignment issue, which treatment options may be suitable, and what the logical next step would be. Many patients already receive a clear direction at the first appointment.
